Japanese car maker Toyota is building an entire city founded on Artificial Intelligence that scientists will use as an AI laboratory. The ambitious project will enable testing on a city scale of all future technologies : robots, drones, self-driving cars and ecological housing.

Toyota have named their city “Woven city” which means “the Web city”. This city wants to connect everything and everyone through networks, sensors, and cameras. It makes it the perfect city for life-size experimentation in real life conditions.

The city construction will start in early 2021. It will provide a home for 2000 people including scientists, engineers, researchers and their families. Woven will stretch over 175ha at the foot of Mount Fuji, 90km from Tokyo.

With this project, Toyota aims to eliminate inner-city congestion issues. With that in mind, 3 types of road will be available :

  • Type 1, only accessible for fast vehicles like autonomous cars and Toyota’s e-palette BEVs

  • Type 2, for slower transport means like bicycles, electric scooters or skateboards,

  • Type 3, only for pedestrians.

This city will be the laboratory of tomorrow and Aisin is proud to be part of the project. We will bring expertise and resources to solve issues from today with tomorrow’s technologies.
